Why Charging Slows Down

• Wrong charger — using a charger with lower wattage than your phone supports will charge slowly. A phone capable of 25W fast charging will charge at a fraction of that speed with a 5W charger.
• Cable quality — low-quality cables cannot carry the current required for fast charging, acting as a bottleneck even with the correct charger.
• Dirty charging port — partial debris in the port reduces current flow, slowing charging.
• Battery degradation — an old battery with high internal resistance charges more slowly than a fresh one.
• Background activity — apps running in the background consume power while charging, slowing the net charge rate.
• Fast charging chip fault — modern phones use dedicated fast-charging ICs; if this chip is damaged or failing, the phone falls back to slow charging speeds.

Step 1: Charger and Cable Audit

We verify that you are using the correct charger wattage and a quality cable rated for fast charging. USB-C cables in particular vary enormously in quality — a cheap cable that looks identical to a quality one may only support 3W of current transfer instead of 25W. We test with calibrated equipment to confirm actual charging current.

Step 2: Port Cleaning

We inspect and clean the charging port, removing any debris that may be restricting current flow.

Step 3: Battery Test

We measure battery internal resistance. A high-resistance battery charges slowly regardless of charger quality. If the battery is degraded, replacement restores fast charging performance.

Step 4: Fast Charging IC Diagnosis

If charger, cable, port, and battery all test fine but charging remains slow, we diagnose the fast-charging IC on the motherboard. Repair or replacement of this component at board level is a specialist repair that we are equipped to perform.
